The first step in changing your life is to figure out what you want to change. Do you have some bad habits you’d like to get rid of? Maybe you have some habits that you’d like to pick up. Make a list of the habits and practices you want to change in your everyday life.
Then, prioritize them and place the list in a high traffic, conspicuous spot in your home. The more you are confronted with these issues, the more you will think about them and gain the drive to change them if only to get rid of that nagging little piece of paper.
Self improvement and motivation are not all about lists and thinking about what to change. You actually have to take actions to change things. Start small, picking one specific thing to fix, and try to include that in as much of your day as possible. The key to changing your habits is in the repetition. Once you become accustomed to doing certain things a certain way each day, you will start to do them automatically.
Do you have a problem getting the dishes done after dinner each night? Rearrange your schedule so that the only thing you have to do is wash those dishes, and make sure that you actually get up and do them. After a few nights of forcing yourself to that dreadful sink, you will stop thinking about doing it and start running on autopilot. Change one habit each week until you are happy with your routine. It’s not easy, but with a little dedication, you can do it.
Take some time off. Having a little “me” time each day can help to give you more energy. Read a book, play a game, or just do whatever you enjoy. Set a time limit, and when it’s over, you will feel refreshed. Self improvement and motivation come more easily to people who are rested and have a little extra spring in their step.
Find some inspirational and motivational posters and sayings. Scatter them throughout the house. Whenever you start to feel discouraged or lazy, look around and you can find inspiration in these sayings. Knowing that the sayings come from successful people helps too. If they can do it, you can do it.
Remember that list from step one? Once you start to achieve your goals , check them off. Seeing those pesky little reminders of imperfection eliminated one by one can give you the drive to try the next and the next until the list is gone.
Self improvement and motivation do not come easily for everyone. Some of us just can’t seem to get it together. Start with these few tips and you will see a difference in your routine, your energy levels, and in your entire life. You can be more satisfied with yourself. It just takes a little effort.
